Wafaa Aly is a Daphne Jackson Fellow at the University of Reading in the Department of Biomedical Sciences.

Wafaa has a degree in Biochemistry and an MSc in Microbiology from Sohag University, Egypt, where she became an Assistant Lecturer. After obtaining a highly competitive scholarship for a PhD which she carried out at the University of Reading, she returned briefly to Egypt to work as a Lecturer at Sohag University before returning to Reading.

Wafaa is returning to research after a nine year break and her Fellowship, due to finish in 2023 is sponsored by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC).

Her research project is entitled: Role of MbfA in intracellular survival of Burkholderia multivorans in macrophages
