Funding
We are delighted to partner with a wide range of funders, including UKRI, universities, government, learned societies, charities, and industry.
Every fellowship requires funding
As a small charity, we work with our funders to bring researchers back to the workforce.
Many of our fellowships have multiple funders to spread the cost. Please contact our Trust Manager, Helen if you would like to discuss co-funding arrangements – h.marsh@surrey.ac.uk.
Fund the future
Funders cover the costs of both the fellow’s salary and the tailored support and mentorship we provide to each applicant.
These costs include:
- Salary: The fellow’s salary depends on where they will be hosted. We give potential funders approximate costs by looking at the current arrangements we already have with similar organisations. Contact our Trust Manager, Helen for more information – h.marsh@surrey.ac.uk.
- Fellowship support costs: These are the costs of providing support to each fellow as they return to their career. We keep these as low as possible whilst maintaining the quality of our services. Fellowship support costs include the mentorship and training we provide, as well as our rigorous application process that ensures our high quality candidates are ready to return to their career.
In return, funding a Daphne Jackson Fellow allows organisations to address strategic priorities around equality, diversity and inclusion by supporting talented individuals with unique perspectives and experiences. Our fellowships provide a practical approach with tangible outputs, while at the same time allowing funders to further their own research strategies.

We want to support excellent cardiovascular research led by promising researchers from across the research community. Daphne Jackson Fellowships are part of the solution, as they combine the opportunity to restart a research career with the bespoke support and training that make it a sustainable choice. By partnering with the Daphne Jackson Trust, the BHF has supported researchers with non-linear careers to deliver vital work that meets our aims.

How to fund a fellowship
There are two ways that you can fund a fellowship:
- We’ll work with you to identify the type of fellowship you’d like to fund. We understand that some funders work in specific subject areas or only with certain organisations. We can accommodate your requirements by tailoring how the fellowship will be advertised. You can be involved in selecting your preferred candidate, and we’ll make sure we keep you informed of how they are progressing by sending you regular reports.
- We’ll match you with a suitable candidate who has already been found eligible. They’ll have written their proposal and will be waiting on funding to proceed with their fellowship. This route is more about choosing a candidate you would like to support than specifying what subject their fellowship will focus on. You can be involved in interviewing the candidate and we’ll send you regular reports on their progress.
If you’d like to discuss any aspect above
