Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

We’re working to ensure everyone feels included, valued, and recognised. Our community includes people from different backgrounds, cultures, and experiences. At the Daphne Jackson Trust, we know that this diversity makes us stronger as an organisation and benefits the wider research environment that we’re all working in.

We promote Equality, Diversity and Inclusion across all aspects of our work:

  • Our fellowships provide a route back into research for people who have taken a career break due to health, caring or family responsibilities. This often-marginalised group brings diversity to the research workforce with non-linear career paths and a wealth of additional experience.
  • We influence policy to ensure the voice of returners is heard. We gather evidence from across the breadth of our fellowships to demonstrate their impact and provide a collective voice so that their issues are noticed and acted upon.

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion is central to the decisions we make:

  • We review our internal processes to ensure that they are fair and fit for purpose within the diverse population of people we help.
  • We collect data on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, ensuring our awards process isn’t affected by bias and our events are as open and accessible as possible.
  • We’re working on new policies to support people from all backgrounds when they apply for a fellowship.
  • We’re doing more to understand the intersectional identities of the communities we’re helping to ensure that we meet the needs of people from all backgrounds, taking positive action wherever it’s needed.
