Fellowships overview

Our Fellowships are created through partnerships with government, universities, learned societies, charities and industry – each committed to supporting professionals who want to return to their careers.

The vital ingredients for a Daphne Jackson Fellowship

You

If you have had a break for two years or more for family, caring or health reasons, and want to return to your career in research, you’re in the right place!

Us

We make sure that all the arrangements are in place to make your fellowship successful.

  • We act as a collective voice for returners, demonstrating your impact, influencing policy and championing equality, diversity and inclusion.
  • We form partnerships with other organisations to fund fellowships.
  • We advertise and promote fellowship opportunities and run a rigorous application process to help prepare you for your return.
  • We support and mentor you throughout the whole process and work with you to create a tailored fellowship that delivers the best chance of success. We also run Daphne Jackson Trust events and training to build your skills and connections.

Funders

We work with our partners in government, universities, learned societies, charities, and industry to secure funding for our fellowships. The funder covers your salary and the costs of supporting our fellows as we guide them through their career re-entry journey. Applicants are not expected to source their own funding

Hosts

The Host organisation provides the facilities and equipment needed to carry out the fellowship. Hosts are often universities, research institutions and companies working in particular research industries. They can be anywhere across the UK and Ireland. Hosts act as your employer during your fellowship and pay the non-salary costs associated with the fellowship (e.g. consumables such as the costs of using facilities and equipment).

Supervisors

Your primary and secondary supervisor are based at your fellowship’s host organisation. Supervisors guide and support you on the day-to-day aspects of your fellowship and help you transition back into your career. During our application process, you and your supervisor set the goals of your fellowship.

Empower.
Overcome.
Reignite.
