Dr Justyna McKinlay

Daphne Jackson Fellow at Heriot-Watt University in the School of Engineering and Physical Sciences

Name: Dr Justyna McKinlay
Field: Engineering & Technology

Specialisms:

  • Spectroscopy and computational methods to investigate the activation of transition metal complexes designed for use in photodynamic therapies.

Research and qualifications:

  • Combined Masters of Science and Engineering (MSC/MENG) in Chemical Technology and Engineering of Fine Chemicals and Specialty Materials from the Silesian University of Technology, Gliwice, Poland
  • PhD from Heriot-Watt University, sponsored by EPSRC, in computational chemistry. Justyna has several publications and a book chapter from her PhD, along with a prize from Heriot-Watt during her second year for her research outputs and performance.
  • Postdoctoral research associate at Heriot-Watt University

Returning to her research after a nine year break Justyna’s Fellowship is entitled: “Photochemistry, photophysics and design of transition metal complexes for photodynamic therapy – a computational study.” In recent years such research and associated methods have become a very important tool in treating various types of cancer.

We rely on our partners to fund fellowships, host and supervise fellows at their institutions and provide support to help us grow. Find out more about how to get involved below.
