Out and about
We’ve been out and about this week with Daphne Jackson Fellows, past and present, sporting our colourful Daphne Jackson Trust lapel badges and talking to people about the Trust’s work and the Fellowship opportunities we offer.
On Monday, two of our Fellowship Advisors joined current and former fellows and potential returners at a networking event for women in science at the British Science Festival in Birmingham. The event, organised by DJ Fellow Margaret O’Hara and others was a great success, giving attendees an opportunity to extend their networks and find out how their peers are progressing in their scientific careers. The event also gave the Trust and the Royal Society of Chemistry an opportunity to announce the exciting news that the RSC will now be sponsoring Daphne Jackson Fellows returning to chemical sciences.
We were also delighted to see a number of Daphne Jackson Fellows at the event, and to speak to Dr Liz Parvin, one of the first Daphne Jackson Fellows, who returned with a Fellowship in the late 1980s and is currently a senior lecturer at the Open University.
On Tuesday, former Fellow Caroline Graham from Herriot-Watt University, spoke at an event in Edinburgh organised by WISE and attended by HRH Princess Anne (and 120 engineers!). During the talk she shared her experience of returning to an engineering career and explained how the Daphne Jackson Trust played a pivotal part in her return.
And at the Vitae Conference in Manchester this week, Katie Perry, our CEO, and former Fellow Jill Stocks, spoke to a variety of people about how we can best support individuals wishing to return to research.
Thanks to everyone who supported us at these events.
We will update this page with photos as soon as possible.
