Have you taken a break from your research career in kidney disease and are now looking to return to work? Are you seeking an opportunity to re-establish your skills and make a positive impact in your field?

We are proud to announce Kidney Research UK are funding a two-year fully-sponsored Fellowship. This opportunity is for a kidney health or disease researcher to return to work after a career break and make a difference in their field. There are around 3.5 million people living with kidney disease in the UK, treatments can be gruelling and currently there is no cure.  Kidney Research UK are committed to supporting the research to end this, offering kidney patients and their families hope for the future.

The Daphne Jackson Fellowship is a unique opportunity for experienced researchers to return to work after a career break and make a difference in their field. Dr Jane Carré is a former Fellow at Kidney Research UK.

After a career break Jane started her Fellowship in March 2019, with her project entitled “Mitochondrial biogenesis and cellular bioenergetic function in uraemic myopathy”.  On her first day in the lab Jane knew that she was back where she wanted to be. During her Fellowship Jane took the opportunity to build connections within the department, by joining the Athena Swan and Early Career Researcher committees.  Jane realised the importance of focussing on setting up a long-term career alongside research which no doubt contributed to her success both as a Fellow but also in securing a post-Fellowship position.

Jane says “My Daphne Jackson Fellowship has given me a sense of pride and ownership of my research project. I really enjoy being an advocate for the Daphne Jackson Trust and Kidney Research UK. I wouldn’t be where I am now without their unwavering support”. Read more about Jane’s Fellowship here.

Elaine Davies, Director of research operations at Kidney Research UK commented “we are delighted to work with the Daphne Jackson Trust to support researchers in returning to their vital work in kidney disease. We have seen in previous years how successful this individually-tailored programme is; by offering a dedicated advice and mentorship alongside financial support, the Daphne Jackson Trust provide a unique opportunity for those looking to re-join kidney science. We would encourage anyone who would like to restart their career to apply before the deadline of 6 March 2023”

Don’t miss this opportunity to re-establish your career and make a difference in your field. Apply for the Kidney Research UK sponsored two-year Daphne Jackson Fellowship today and join a supportive community of experienced researchers who are committed to making a positive impact.

We look forward to receiving your application!
