We’re rebranding! Here at the Daphne Jackson Trust, we’re delighted to introduce you to our new brand and logo. We hope you like it as much as we do!
We support people who have taken a break from their career in research for at least two years for family, caring or health reasons. Named after Professor Daphne Jackson, the first female professor of physics in the UK, we’ve helped over 500 people return to research since 1992. Our fellowships combine a personalised programme of retraining and mentorship, enabling fellows to generate novel, high-quality research findings or make essential contributions to the technical research environment.
Our new logo includes Daphne Jackson’s name in a colour gradient from blue to purple along with an upward looping arrow. These colours represent our innovative and forward-thinking approach, while the arrow represents the pivoting journey of our fellows and the upward trajectory of their progress. Both are used across the new brand, along with a bright, modern colour palette and images of fellows.
Our brand uses a series of new slogans, including “Empower. Overcome. Reignite.” and “Careers > Restarted” along with our traditional “Supporting Research Returners.” These slogans complement the approachable, innovative, and confident tone of the new brand.
“I’m really excited to be able to share this new logo and branding. As is often the case, a picture paints a thousand words and this branding clearly articulates just who we are as a charity – bold, optimistic and passionate about changing the lives of anyone who wants to return to career in research after a break.
Daphne was a visionary. She knew that bold action was needed to change the status quo that many people with career breaks experience – even today. Our new logo and branding is an embodiment of this vision. It’s different from the rest and that’s exactly how it should be. We want people to recognise us and the important role that returners play across the entire research workforce.” – Dr Katie Perry, CEO, Daphne Jackson Trust
The re-brand was created with AVE, a design agency that specialises in partnering with cause-driven organisations and charities. Along with our Daphne Jackson team, they undertook a series of surveys with users, fellows, and stakeholders and worked with a steering group to develop the new logo and brand.
“The Daphne Jackson Trust is a leader not just in returning researchers to their careers, but in advocating for issues of equality, diversity, and inclusion across the research landscape,” says Professor Tom Welton, Chair of the Daphne Jackson Trust Board of Trustees.
“We are delighted that the new brand encapsulates the inclusiveness and forward-thinking approach that have been part of the Trust since the beginning.”
