Dr Samuel Powley

Daphne Jackson Fellow in the Department of Chemistry at The University of Manchester

Name: Dr Samuel Powley
Field: Physical Sciences; Engineering & Technology

Specialisms:

  • Chemical design
  • Synthesis of light emitting materials for use in electronics and visual display technologies

Research and qualifications:

  • MChem in chemistry from Heriot-Watt University
  • PhD in chemistry from Heriot-Watt University
  • Postdoctoral researcher at the Technical University of Munich in Germany

Returning to research after a 4-year break, Sam’s Fellowship is entitled: “Boron-rich carbenes from fundamentals to applications in energy materials.” Sam’s research explores how boron-rich carbenes – highly reactive carbon atoms bonded to boron atoms to stabilise them – can be used to design molecules with tailored electronic properties, aiding in creating energy efficient lighting.

We rely on our partners to fund fellowships, host and supervise fellows at their institutions and provide support to help us grow. Find out more about how to get involved below.
