Fellowship Title: Compositional Analysis of the Glomerular Glycocalyx: Identifying Disease-Related Damage and Therapeutic Targets to Restore Endothelial Function

My research focuses on the endothelial glycocalyx, a protective layer lining our blood vessels that is essential for healthy kidney function. In diabetes, damage to the glycocalyx contributes to kidney disease. Working collaboratively with researchers at the Universities of Bristol, Liverpool and Manchester, I am investigating the changes to the glycocalyx that occur in diabetes. This research aims to identify new therapeutic targets and support the development of treatments for kidney and cardiovascular disease.
