Daphne Jackson Trust training courses are key to rebuilding confidence

A key element of the Daphne Jackson Fellowship is to help rebuild individuals’ self-confidence, which can be lacking following a prolonged career break. Alongside carrying out a novel research project, the Fellowship includes retraining and up-skilling, allowing Fellows to get back up to speed with new methodologies. But it’s not just about learning new laboratory techniques and updating IT skills….

During the course of the two-year fellowship, Daphne Jackson Fellows also attend four courses, including workshops on work-life balance and professional skills. This week, groups of Fellows are attending the work-life balance course in Edinburgh or Guildford. The workshop, run by Dr John Rayman, a professional trainer, helps participants identify how they can better manage their time, both at work and at home. The course is also a great opportunity for Fellows to share personal experiences and build their networks.

Fellows attending the course in Guildford on 21st January will also have an opportunity to hear how one former Fellow, Dr Gillian Forrester, has navigated her way back to a full-time research career.

Previous attendees said:

“I found the course useful and thought provoking. I have talked about it a lot with colleagues since returning and overall have found it helpful and have already had a big sort out of my desk and paperwork!! “

“I liked the way the course was presented because we were directed enough, but were also able to discuss freely the issues that affected us. It was also good to hear that others have similar problems to deal with and useful solutions were discussed too.”

Further details of upcoming courses, and a summary of a Q&A session with Dr Gillian Forrester can be found on our events page.
