Returning to her research after a 5-year break, Laleh’s Fellowship is entitled: “PROTAC (Proteolysis targeting chimeras) degradation of OGlcNAcase (OGA) / O-GlcNAc transferase (OGT) as a novel therapeutic strategy for the treatment of various human diseases and tool development”. PROTACs are a new class of drugs that can selectively degrade specific proteins within cells. By targeting enzymes such as OGA and OGT, PROTACs can precisely modulate these enzymes’ activity, which is crucial for various cellular processes. The development of PROTACs offers a new way to target proteins that were previously considered “undruggable”.
