Dr Razieh (Laleh) Eskandari

Daphne Jackson Fellow at King’s College London, School of Cancer & Pharmaceutical Sciences

Name: Dr Razieh (Laleh) Eskandari
Field: Life Sciences & Biomedicine

Specialisms:

  • Organic chemistry
  • Development of therapeutics for human disease

Research and qualifications:

  • BSc from Yasouj University, Iran
  • MSc from Shiraz University, Iran
  • PhD from Simon Fraser University, Canada
  • Postdoctoral Fellowships include the Alzheimer’s society  to develop improved treatments

Returning to her research after a 5-year break, Laleh’s Fellowship is entitled: “PROTAC (Proteolysis targeting chimeras) degradation of OGlcNAcase (OGA) / O-GlcNAc transferase (OGT) as a novel therapeutic strategy for the treatment of various human diseases and tool development”. PROTACs are a new class of drugs that can selectively degrade specific proteins within cells. By targeting enzymes such as OGA and OGT, PROTACs can precisely modulate these enzymes’ activity, which is crucial for various cellular processes. The development of PROTACs offers a new way to target proteins that were previously considered “undruggable”.
