Dr Fatima Madugu

Fatima Madugu is a Daphne Jackson Fellow at The University of Manchester in the School of Chemical Engineering.

After completing a BSc in Quantity Surveying at the Abubaker Tafawa Balewa University, Nigeria, Fatima worked at the Centre for Renewable Energy Research, Umaru Musa Yar’adua University, Katsina, Nigeria. She secured funding from the Petroleum Technology Development Fund for a masters at the University of Newcastle, followed by a PhD in Renewable Energy Engineering at Cranfield University. After completion of her PhD, she returned to work at the Centre for Renewable Energy Research working on bioenergy technologies including working on an EU funded project on sustainable Agro-forestry and fuelwood conservation.

Fatima is now returning to her research after a four year career break and her project is titled: Bioprocessing of Microalgae for Enhanced Production of Carotenoids using a Mathematical Modelling Approach

Due to finish in 2023, her Fellowship is sponsored by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC).
