Dr Ali Alzwayi

Ali Alzwayi is a Daphne Jackson Fellow at the University of Glasgow in the James Watt School of Engineering, in the Systems, Power and Energy Research Division.

With a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from Sabha University in Libya, Ali worked in industry before returning to Sabha University to teach engineering to undergraduates, alongside studying for an MSc looking at solar energy systems. After gaining promotion to Lecturer, Ali was awarded a scholarship from the Libyan government to study for a PhD in the UK, which he undertook at the University of Glasgow, publishing several first author papers.

Returning to research after a break of seven years, Ali is developing a new thermal cooling system for electric car batteries to help make them more efficient.

The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) is sponsoring Ali’s Fellowship.

Due to be completed in 2024, his project is entitled: A Novel Thermal Management System of Cylindrical Battery Cells Using Cooling Fins
